Project in Progress — Full Case Study Coming Soon ..

Context

In 2024, DJI Agriculture launched an initiative to produce the first European case study on the use of agricultural drones for crop protection treatments. The project was designed not simply as a technical demonstration, but as a strategic piece of content — aimed at clearly communicating the efficiency, precision, and tangible benefits of this technology in a European market that remains cautious toward innovation.

To deliver this project, DJI chose to collaborate with Riagro — one of the leading DJI Agriculture distributors in Romania and my client for over five years, with whom I have built a complete marketing and communications ecosystem in the field of precision agriculture.

My role in this project was to define the narrative concept, coordinate media production, and deliver the final material in a format validated for international use. The objective was not just to produce a video, but to tell a clear, structured, and credible story that demonstrates the real-world applicability of agricultural drones under actual field conditions.

Provocări

One of the main challenges was the complexity of the brief provided by DJI. This was not intended to be a generic piece of content, but a case study with clearly defined requirements: mandatory technical sequences, real-life application footage, relevant human interventions, and a coherent narrative structure — from introduction to conclusion.

I worked simultaneously on structuring the story, writing the script, organizing logistics, and coordinating the film crew to ensure every detail was covered. Time was another critical factor: in agriculture, applications must be performed early, within very short time windows when weather conditions are stable and wind currents are minimal. This required shooting sessions at dawn, with a narrow capture window, where drone operations, filming equipment, the crew, and the narrative flow all had to be perfectly synchronized.

At the same time, the pressure was heightened by the significance of the project. As a European first, the quality standards and attention to detail were critical. There was no room for improvisation, and any missed sequence would have been difficult to reshoot. The project demanded precise execution, efficient coordination, and real-time adaptability on set.

Infrastructure.

The project was executed with a compact yet highly effective team, tailored to the demands of fast-paced field shooting and the rigorous requirements of DJI’s brief.

I worked with a single videographer — Filip — chosen for his versatility and experience in projects with strict time constraints and challenging outdoor conditions. He was responsible for capturing all footage — aerial shots, detail sequences, and narrative content — managing a wide range of filming scenarios within a very limited timeframe.

The Riagro team provided full on-site support with the necessary equipment — including the agricultural drones and piloting crew — ensuring that the crop treatment applications could be demonstrated in real-world conditions, fully aligned with DJI’s requirements.

Overall coordination was supported through meticulous executive production, with detailed planning of logistics, team synchronization, and shot sequencing — all carefully adapted to the narrow operational window available on the filming morning.

Close communication between all parties involved was essential to capturing the required footage without compromising on quality or accuracy.

Results.

The project resulted in two distinct video deliverables, each tailored to the objectives of the respective partners involved.

The first was an extended 9-minute video, published on Riagro’s YouTube channel, documenting in detail the process of applying crop protection treatments using the DJI Agras T50 drone in a vineyard. This video was designed to educate and demonstrate, step by step, how the technology works in practice. It was structured as a comprehensive case study, featuring explanations, testimonials, and technical sequences.

The second video, with a duration of 3 minutes, was produced in an international format, optimized for DJI Agriculture’s global audience, and published on the company’s official website in the Case Studies section:

Its publication on the DJI website serves as international validation of the production — visually, technically, and narratively. This was a benchmark project, demonstrating that even with a small but well-coordinated team, it is possible to deliver international-standard video content quickly and under real-world working conditions.
